August 15 Rhode Island International Film Festival Films at JCC

Join us Sunday, August 15 as we host three Rhode Island International Film Festival Films

The Jewish Community Center of Rhode Island will host 2 showings (three films in all) as part of the Rhode Island International Film Festival. 

 

The films will be shown this Sunday, August 15. 

 

Please see details below.  JCC members will be charged a reduced fee for admission.  Please be sure to bring  and show your membership card. Movies will be shown in the social hall.

 Members:  $5 per session
Non-members:  $10 per session

2:00 PM  Me and the Jewish Thing (Denmark/Israel, 2009.  42 minutes)
Directed by Ulrik Gutkin
'Me and the Jewish Thing' is a cheerful and confronting  documentary study of the collision of two cultures.  The documentary paints an intimate picture of what it means to be a non-religious Jew in Denmark today.

A touching and humorous portrait of San Francisco Jewish nursing home resident Esther Weintraub.
 
4:00 PM  Valentina's Mother (Israel, 2008.  75 minutes)
Directed by Matti Harari and Arik Lubetzky
Paula is 79 years old and lives alone and lonely in Israel, until a friend brings her a Valentina, a Polish girl, to take care of her.  Valentina stirs in Paula old, repressed memories from the Holocaust.  Slowly she reveals the fabric of her life to the Polish girl.
