Dear Andrew, January was a busy month for the Kosher Wine Society. On the 23rd we celebrated with over 125 members at a fabulous food and wine pairing at Solo Restaurant, created for us by Top Chef Eli Kirshtein. February is starting out with its own excitement, a chance to experience very rare and luxurious wines from Covenant. And, since it's winter and cold out, we have a combined scotch and whiskey tasting coming up early in March to help us along. Don't miss "The Essence of Yayin" tomorrow evening, February 2nd, at the Roger Smith Hotel, when we welcome Covenant wine maker Jeff Morgan. Jeff will guide us through tasting some of his exceptional wines and reveal secrets of making great wine, both in the Napa Valley and throughout the world. Be one of the first to sneak preview Jeff's soon-to-be-released "Covenant Lavan Chardonnay 2008." On March 4th, at the Madison Hotel in Morristown, the Kosher Wine Society will collaborate with the Whisky Guild in presenting "Whisky Classic New Jersey." We will be pouring over 200 selections of the world's finest Single Malt Scotch and Whiskey. Also savor some wild Renegade Rums. A Kosher gourmet dinner will be served for those that would like to join us at the VIP level. To register for this event visit: http://www.whiskyguild.com/kws.htm or call for tickets at 646-484-WINE. Also take advantage of our Abigale's special on the bottom of this Newsletter. Throughout the year, in addition to these public events, the Kosher Wine society hosts private events for synagogues, organizations and charities. Please contact us immediately; our winter and Passover calendar is filling up fast. Please use our schedule an event page to schedule your next event with us.
The Kosher Wine Society is anticipating tremendous growth in 2010 and we need help. We are seeking entrepreneurial-spirited wine writers, event planners and volunteers to help out at events and work on making 2010 the our best year yet! If you have what it takes call us at 646-484-9463. Looking forward to seeing you at a future event.

| MONTEPULCIANO D'ABRUZZO
The plump and juicy Montepulciano grape is our pick for the month. It grows easily and prolifically in the region of Abruzzo in east-central Italy where the quality of the wines have been constantly improving over the last ten years. The juice is a deep purple and ruby color and produces a soft, fruity dry wine with low acidity and mild sweet tannins, making it very drinkable even when produced in large quantities. It is often consumed young and provides cherry and red raspberry flavors, sometimes augmented by herbal and floral aromas. In the hands of a master producer, Montepulciano d'Abruzzo can age brilliantly for 20 to 30 years acquiring character and complex minerality. Quality Montepulciano wines can be found at every price point starting from around $8.00/bottle. More upscale wines are closer to $30 and the finest aged vintages retail for over $200 per bottle. Suggested Foods As might be expected because of its region of origin, Montepulciano d'Abruzzo pairs well with any dish made with tomato sauce. It also makes a good pairing with aged/sharp cheeses, sheep and goat cheeses, mushroom dishes, dried meats, grilled meats and lamb.
