London GOVERNMENT AWARDS GRANT TO JEWISH MUSEUM LONDON ON HOLOCAUST MEMORIAL DAY

The Jewish Museum London is delighted to announce that Margaret Hodge, Minister for Culture, has awarded the Jewish Museum a grant of £100,000 on Holocaust Memorial Day. This is the first time the Jewish Museum has received a direct grant from the Government.

Rickie Burman, Director of the Jewish Museum said: 

"This much needed grant recognises the work of the Jewish Museum which will open its doors on 17 March 2010. The theme of Holocaust Memorial Day this year is 'The Legacy of Hope', a key theme highlighted in our new museum through personal stories of struggle, survival and hope. We look forward to welcoming visitors of all ages and backgrounds to experience our interactive displays, exhibitions and exciting public programmes."

The Jewish Museum will reopen in March after a major development project. Its new displays and exhibitions will tell the story of Jewish history, culture and religion in an innovative and compelling way and engage with people of all backgrounds and faiths to explore Jewish heritage and identity as part of the wider story of Britain.  Displayed across four permanent galleries, the huge variety of objects, films, photography, hands-on exhibits and personal stories on display will paint a rich and nuanced picture of British Jewish life and religion as well as exploring contemporary social issues around immigration and settlement.

The story of the Jewish people reflects the experiences of other immigrant groups settling in a new country, seeking to make a new life while retaining their identity and traditions.

The museum's lively and busy education department provides programmes focusing on understanding Judaism and the Holocaust. One of the four permanent galleries is The Holocaust Gallery. This unique space explores the impact of Nazism through the experiences and poignant personal items of London-born Auschwitz survivor Leon Greenman OBE and other survivors who have made their homes in Britain.

To critics of Israel's response to emergency situations, please read the following report from Arutz Sheva detailing Israel's
"DISPROPORTIONATE RESPONSE" to Haiti's horrific situation. It is unlikely that you will see this information in the mainstream
media. Israel's aid gets under-reported or completely ignored, but that doesn't stop her efforts.

As for Israel's relief efforts to Haiti, they include the following: A field hospital, the only hospital in operation, with 40
doctors, 25 nurses, paramedics, a pharmacy, a children's ward, a radiology department, an intensive care unit, an emergency room,
two operating rooms, a surgical department, an internal department and a maternity ward. The hospital can treat approximately 500
patients each day, and in addition will perform preliminary surgeries. A search-and-rescue team, which has rescued about five people
from under the rubble. 220 personnel in total Dozens of truckloads of medical and logistical equipment Saudi Arabia, on the other
hand, one of the richest countries in the world, has sent a message of condolence to Haitian President René Préval. Some Arab
countries have "pledged" help, such as $1 million pledged from both Kuwait and Morocco, and the United Arab Emirates says it will
"shortly" send a plane with humanitarian assistance. Qatar, with the third largest gas reserves and the second highest GDP per
capita in the world, has dispatched 50 metric tons of aid to the hundreds of thousands of homeless and injured Haitians.

Latest reports are that the IDF Medical Corps have treated some 200 injured people in Haiti, performed ten life-saving surgeries and
saved the lives of 140 others. On Sunday night, a resident of Port-au-Prince gave birth to a boy at the Israeli field hospital. In
appreciation and gratitude, his mother decided to name her new son "Israel" in honor of the country that helped her.

Please view this video from CNN. The reporter discovers, to her amazement, that Israel responded to the earthquake devastation in
Haiti from "the other side of the world" with the most advanced field hospital installation possible. She marvels that the U.S., so
much closer to Haiti, hasn't done the same. Viewing this video will make you very proud of Israel's accomplishments.

The world needs to learn a great lesson from Israel!
